Around the bend...

I really enjoyed this weeks prompt. It was fascinating to see not only my own interpretation of “corners” but everyone elses as well.

I did a mind map about the word CORNER and I was surprised at how many ways it could be interpreted. The interpretation that stuck with me was, well, 2 things actually. This one is symbolic of my love of adventure and my unyielding optimistic attitude, and the other has to do with my attitude toward motherhood, which I will enter in my motherhood art journal. The quote that immediately popped into my head was “Not all those who wander are lost” and “Still round the corner there way wait a new road or a secret gate.” If you are a LOTR geek, you may recognize these lines from Tolkien. The complete quote is as follows: “All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost; the old that is strong does not wither, deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, a light from the shadows shall spring; renenwed shall be blade that was broken, the crownless again shall be king.”

Perfectly suits my “pollyanna” (as my husband likes to call me) unyielding, unbending, undying optimism that something always awaits around the corner…provided we have the courage to move from where we are now to get there.

The transfer is a photo I took and I did an acrylic paint transfer and I am pleased with the way it turned out!

week #3: Corners

I love the idea of a special empty place waiting…ready for whatever comes my way. A home of sorts, to welcome the unknown rather than offer it only a cold shoulder or fearful stare..

Thank you

Thank you all for your kind comments about my pages. It’s given my confidence a boost and encouraged me to continue. I love the generous spirit on here. Paul x

A Room Of One's Own

This week’s prompt made me think of little corners in the house where one could sneak away for an hour or a day, creating, reading, etc. I collect photos of such nooks from magazines. I tried to transfer one to my page by copying it to B/W then using acetone on the back, but it didn’t transfer at all well (just got some blue shadows), so I just adhered the copy to the page instead.

I journaled a bit about these spots and highlighted the words I used in the layout.

I really like this because of the juxtaposition of words and photo. I wish the transfer had worked. Anyone got any suggestions on that? Next time I’ll use packing tape and try it that way.

Week Three -- Corners/Crossroads

2005 was a very challenging year for me, to put it politely (a real hell year is a more apt description.) Week 3’s prompt got me thinking about turning corners, moving on from bad to good, but I’m not quite at that point yet. I’m still at the crossroads – wandering around, trying to figure out what’s next, which way to go. I’ve headed off in one direction or another a few times, but seem to be constantly looping back to the crossroads.

So, here’s what I ended up doing. The big image on my page is a photo my husband took at “The Crossroads” in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Blue’s legend has it that this is where musician Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil in exchange for heavenly music skills. (I expect Mr. Johnson just did a lot of practicing, but even if he did sell his soul its doubtful he did it in right smack in the center of town). The other photos are vintage images of people waiting on the side of the road, opening a gate, and then at the lower left there’s a picture of a signpost for “Victory Road.” The text is mostly culled from the lyrics of Johnson’s “Crossroads Blues” which was covered by Eric Clapton, among others. Hopefully I’ll be able to make a page documenting how I actually “turned the corner” soon! Crossroads are fine and magical places, but I’d sure appreciate a little direction, some lasting good luck and a big helping of peace of mind right about now.

Spark! What I wish I was doing...

As soon as I rec’d this email I wrote my journaling. Since it’s cold, icy and snowing here, I did my page in a wintery theme. The middle of the page opens up to show my journaling which is all about me wishing for my family to be home for summer vacation. I miss them so much! There’s nowhere I’d rather be than with all of them sitting around in my backyard with a fire and a bottle of wine :)
I loved this Spark!

inspiration.

sometimes all it takes to get inspired is a shopping trip online. when i am feeling in a rut all it takes for me is a spin around to some of my favorite sites. for this page i decided to put the Ultra think embossing enamel all over this page to make it all shiny. incase anyone was wondering.
