article: my cover | written down

well, i know its been a while now. and everyone has posted there covers. but i signed up a bit late and, just made my journal. so here is my cover. i actually really like how it turned out, so i wanted to share it. a few of you have asked how i did the cover and the binding of the journal. so i thought i would share. the cover is just made of 12×12 paper that i liked, i just ripped and cut the paper into stripes and glued and sewed the pieces together. and then i wet the paper collage and ironed it dry, repeated that a few times with walnut ink also, and thats how it turned out. the binding, i just took regular 8 1/2×11 cardstock, a cream color, and folded the pieces in half, then i drilled holes in the creases and louped waxy flaxy through the holes to bind it together. to put the cover on i just used PVA to adhere it to the cardstock. i also sewed on a ribbon to use as a bookmark. i cant remember what the closure is called, but it was one of rebecca sowers products. and thats it. i really had no idea what i was doing, it was my first attempt at binding a book. so hopefully it will stay together ok. seems ok so far.
