week #1: Lost & Found

Why is so hard when it comes to writing the specifics about ourselves? Maybe because the things I’d write for this week’s entry are the surface descriptions, the one’s you’d need to know if you were looking for me in a crowded room of strangers…I’d be the tall one who wished she blended in a little more, probably standing uncomfortably quiet until I saw someone I recognized. However, the harder question for me here is not “who am I?” but this: do we see ourselves as we really are or do we see ourselves as we want to be seen? I will leave my description to be written throughout the weeks of this challenge…and see what comes to the surface.

In the meantime, my name is Kelly…and I am so excited about participating in this art journal challenge again! It’s so nice to see a few familiar friends and the chance to get to know the new ones here…Welcome! I look forward to creating alongside all of you over the next few months…

Week 1

Here we go then – my first proper page. This is way off the mark from what I had in mind… it kind of evolved after a few accidents involving scrapbook dyes to create a wash, printing on transparency, printing transparency design badly onto my base canvas, covering up printing booboo with a red/crown acrylic background, discovering I’d run out of red acrylic, having to coat the whole lot with brown Heidi Swapp acrylic paint and starting over! lol

So just a few things about me in the circle, a bit of doodling with the only pen I have that shows up on the HS paint, a gold zig, stamping here and there, a glitter ball stencil in antique gold, my various nicknames dymo-ed, the date it was created (want to keep that a constant feature), the angel cut off my Christmas card from my brother, she was far too nice to have lying around the place so has been put to immediate use, the little tab opens up for my name, e-mail address and tel number.

Hopefully next time I shall manage a bright background that I can write on! hehe

week 1 entry

Just some paper scraps, letter stickers, stamps, etc. Sharpie pen.

Cahllenge 1

Here is my response to the first challenge. I painted a background in 3 different Steart Gill alchemy paints, tried my first gel transfer on a desaturated photo of myself and let the brown sketch pen do the talking.

Sharpie Deal!

If you liike Ultra fine point Sharpies & have a Staples near you, they have a pack of 24 colors for $9.99. I looked quickly at their website & didn’t see it listed there.

I am TOTALLY loving everyone’s pages & covers… it is great there are so many styles… I’m sure I’ll see things I want to try. My goal is to do week 2 on Mon because the rest of the week is crazy getting ready for a trade show. I’m looking forward to the next page…pat

down-under artist!

G’day everyone – just a quick few words – it’s great to be here! I am only just finding a bit of a creative streak in me, and I am hoping that completing an art journal will bring it out, and let it run ‘wild’!

As you can see from the image – I am going digital – I have recently discovered digital scrapbooking, and have found that I am able to draw, and express my self better using the technology of today!
scallywags journal 'ingredients'
{credits- papers & stamps by Kim Christensen} My aim is to use all my own designs – but at present I’m still learning!
I’m looking forward to getting stuck into this, and at the same being inspired by all of you out there!

2 pages of me (upload larger image)

Here it is again so you can see it (I hope!)

2 pages of me

I am not 100% on this one, the blue page is too messy.
Guess that says a lot. I am definatley imperfect perfectionist, as noted in my journal entry!

First assignment, gather and photgraph supplies...

I have been trying to upload my photos unsuccessfully. I don’t know where they are going!

I am going to upload my supplies photos to my blog which can be found here: http://kymmiecatdeux.blogspot.com/.

I am so excited to begin this course. I did take the short class this past December. Fabulous. I am so excited by everyone’s posts and am keeping a list of fabulous supplies I must get my hands on!

My Best,
Kymmie

Not the first prompt, but...

I really felt the need to cover my journal before I begin! I started with a Cachet Studio 10×8, bark color. I decoupaged Basic Grey papers and the fairy cutout from a card (fairy is holding a scale, reminding me to strive for balance – yes, I am a Libra!)... Quote says, ART – the most valuable of the arts, the art of living.

My favorite art supplies these days are my basic acrylic paints, especially when they are really mixed together… trying to start pencil drawing again, too. Also, I am kind of a quote-freak, and I love collage. Looking forward to completing my “please return to” prompt tonight.
