{week two} the new duty

This week’s prompt led me to think of the following quote (which I stamped on the left page, shown above) and how it relates to my life.
“To vibrate, to accept, to expand… this is the new duty. To give oneself as is, to let life meet us as it really is, to live for the moment and extract from each moment all that it holds of truth, beauty and goodness, without scruple, without vain questioning, in the spontaneous desire of life, in childlike purity of heart… to be able to be oneself, to dare to be happy and at last allow one’s soul to spread its wings.”—Jeanne de Vietinghoff
I tried the bleached photo technique, then painted over the photo with white acrylic, quickly wiping it before it dried which toned the photo a bit and gave it a softer look. Then I scribbled the following journaling: “Sometimes I hold back. I play it safe. I put up walls. I’m not sure why. I only know it’s like an instinct. An unconscious act. Second nature. Oh, can you imagine the possibilities if I could just RISK more, OPEN up more, and DARE TO BE HAPPY. What would I be like? What would life be like? If only I would allow my own soul to spread its wings…”
