article: Alliance(s) | written down

This was a surprisingly hard entry for me. I took the picture earlier in the week, and spent some time working with the photo and the poem, but didn’t finish the piece until yesterday. I’ve been thinking a lot lately (and you may have noticed this theme through a lot of the work I have put up here) about the alliance we build with ourselves. To me it is far easier to build strong alliances and partnerships with friends and lovers than it is to commit to fostering an alliance with myself. So that is what I explored here. The background is pigmented ink, various lettering and images from magazines, and feathers I have collected over the years. The poem is by Gary Snyder.
