Catching Up...Last Few Assisgnments

First off, kudos to all for the wonderful work they’ve been posting. I’m behind on commenting as I was in San Diego on vacation last week and started a new part-time job this week..but please know that I continued to be inspired and stretched by all the creativity on display.

Here’s what I’ve been up to…
I took my art journal on vacation, along with my Peerless Watercolors and a water brush and I actually had some fun trying my hand at painting the sunset we watched in La Jolla and my impressions of San Diego. (Underneath, I just wrote impressions from our time there.) I don’t have any knowledge of how to paint, but I had great fun just playing on the page—which is what I love the most about this class, it stretches me and helps to view this journal in a fun, childlike way.

For the Corners prompt, it reminded of my quest lately to feel like I’ve found my place in the world, not just physically but also in terms of who I am and what my highest gifts and talents are. The photo is of a cow under the tree from a mailer for The Sun magazine. There’s a vintage map, some Making Memories ledger paper, a slide mount, a Periodic Table of Elements stamp from Club Scrap, and a cut out border from the latest Urban Outfitters catalog. (If you like decorative border, get the catalog to cut up. It rocks.) My journaling reads: “My own corner of the world…to take root, to create, to live content….to wander and to come back home again.”

For the Positive Influence prompt, I thought about how your actions are like little waves that ripple out. For this spread,
I wrote in a pull-out tag about how I feel that I have a made a positive influence through my teaching of women writers. Background was made by dragging inkpads directly over the page; I was pretty pleased with the result. Photo I took while kayaking in Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge in Florida.

I’ve also been wishing my handwriting were better, so I’ve made a commitment to practicing. I love how some art journalers write on wavy lines, so I took this quote I like—St. Theresa’s Prayer—and tried to play with my lettering. I’m looking forward to getting better with my handwriting…It was fun to play with. I used Stampin’ Up markers for this page and was pleased with the watercolor effect they gave when I ran over the letters with a water brush.
Quote is: “May today there be peace within. May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith. May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you…. May you be content knowing you are a child of God. Let this presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love.”
