I just found this website about a book called ‘Drawing from Life’. There are photos of journals if you click through it all.

And you might want to glance at the Feb issue of Mary Engelbreit. It has a feature on creating a ‘writing nook’. The decorating might not appeal to everyone, but it is a cool idea. Showed a lot of cards from different artists.
