Kitchen Plan

When I saw this topic, i got very excited at first. I have been designing my ‘ideal’ kitchen in my head and on paper for the last two years. My husband and I (mainly I) are in the process of designing our own home. I have begun with the kitchen and don’t really care about anything much else (except maybe a craft/art room – where I don’t have to clear stuff up to eat our meals, etc). But I have been feeling quite ‘line drawing-y’ lately – hence today’s entry which is very sketchy but imparts the main information about my proposed kitchen. I’m short, so I hate high cupboards. I also detest corner cupboards because of the potential for them banging into each other, getting caught or trapping fingers, etc. I don’t like having nowhere to put hot things when they come out of the oven or microwave, and I don’t like putting away appliances which I will spend an eternity taking in and out of cupboards again.

Call it risk assessment, but if I’m building the house of my dreams, it will also have the kitchen of my dreams. I don’t really know what I want it to look like – in terms of style – shaker, english country, modern, etc, etc. I just know what components I want. The first page of my entry listed all the things I like about kitchens and their purpose – call it brain storming…..art value??

something to talk about

This didn’t end out how I thought it would when I started. But I like it.

It is the main statement, surrounded by journalling thoughts going around. :)It shows how fun things are for me.

Week 7 - A little birdy told me...

My daughter laughed at my ‘ear’. I told her she had a funny ear and just didn’t really know what it looked like!

We must be so careful passing on the things that we ‘think we hear or understand’. In my office someone overhearing 2 people speculating frequently turns into ‘I heard that such and such was true…’ Amazing!

overheard - "individuality is NOT encouraged here."

Yep. Someone really said this. A mom no less. About a certain private school and how wonderful it is that the teacher assigns colors – how everything MUST be colored the same color by all the kids and must be perfectly in the lines.

Definitely NOT a place I’ll be sending my daughter!

Kitchens, dinners and other foodstuffs….

My mum is a great cook. And I grew up awfully spoiled with the best meals, cakes, deserts etc. And still today when I visit my parents a good dinner is usually included.

I used to cook quite a lot myself, but with a demanding job and a great take away just around the corner. The take away took over. Now that I have more time I started to cook again and I like it!

Today I went to the market and bought all nice fresh stuff. I took the fruit and fish pictures there that I used for this entry.

Have a great weekend!

Catching up

Okay this first one is my kitchen page. It is about my dad and my grandpas spaghetti. Too totally different recipes but both delicious..

The second one is my overheard layout. It talks about how this girl I use to babysit for ( a child who would dance around the house singing “I’m a cowgirl baby”) was playing with these toy animals and I overheard her yell
“NO I cannot believe you did that, how could you knock her up?” I was standing there mouth open wide totally shocked when I realized that she meant that the daddy lion bumped the mama lion and the mama lion flew UP into the air.. knocked up lol.

Weekend spark - dream weekend

The spark about a dream weekend really resonated. This is what came out. I really need some of this and soon!

:over heard chatter

I tried to listen to what my friends were saying, but (un)fortunately, most of them speak a different language, so I didn’t catch much :)!
Oh well…it makes me so proud that I have dutch, belgian, german and mauritian friends with all their amazing cultural differences. I really thrive on finding out about different languages and people’s different ways of life – I just find it all so interesting.
My german friend doesn’t think much of english sausages, my mauritian friend doesn’t use rice so much, my dutch and belgian friends are so easy going!
I put several versions of ‘hello’ and ‘how are you?’ on this page including cornish (where I grew up!). Cornwall really should be a nationality :)

My favorite cookbook

When I was a child and I would hang out in the kitchen this was my favorite cookbook to look through. I think I was enchanted by the idea that a sweet little doll could make cookies in the kitchen with her Mom. I still have this cookbook today. It took me awhile to come up with what I wanted to do with this page – and then I remember this book.

I've got the whole world in my hands

This is what came out of me when I said YES. I kept singing the song from my childhood, “you’ve got the whole world in your hands…” It was a great week of making not only other people happy, but making me feel like anything was possible. It made me do some soul searching into saying YES to the things I need and continuing on my journey of self love and preservation.
