my cover
I finally created my cover last night. My book is just a spiral bound sketchbook from the art supply store. I decorated the cover and tied some ribbons to the sprial spine.

I’m so excited to start this adventure! It has been a good three years sense I’ve been able to do art just for arts sake. I think this is really going to be very good for me.
Wanted to say thanks to all you have already posted. I’ve been reading everyone’s entries and it really has been nice to have a place to come and chat about what we are working on.
I put my first entry in my journal last night but due to my recent move I have not been able to get my scanner unpacked and up and running so no picture to post yet. Hopefully this weekend. But until then I wanted to just put some things down about the feelings and thoughts that came up while creating this first entry.
Me and new beginnings…
-get in touch with my artist intuition again.
-let the need for perfection go!
-HAVE FUN with art.
-no pressure, no judgement, just exploration.
-explore, create, imagine the endless possibilities.
-FREEDOM
I’m in at last … I can stop feeling like Billy No Mates in the corner, unable to join in.
Bought myself a lovely little journal from The Works this morning – only £1.99. It’s an A4 field sketch book, so it has cartridge paper inside and a cover like you get on desk diaries. I’ve finished covering the front, but not the back, but I’ll post pics when it’s finished (hopefully tonight).
I’m off sick from work for another week, so hopefully I will have lots of time to be inspired and creative. Hopefully!

I thought of this page yesterday but never got chance to make it so made sure I had to time to do it this morning before the idea wore off! Cut the lady out of a magazine – she’s hoola hooping! I made a bit of a whoopsy with the stamping and stamped right on her nose, lol! All about my need to deal with my ‘ings’ as recorded on the first page of my journal. I thought when I started this journal that I would have trouble filling up the space…wrong, I didn’t have enough room on this page to get everything down really, did enjoy making it though and it’s the first page that I ‘quite like’ too.

What fun! Background is direct-to-paper pigment ink, smooshed all over the paper. Stamps and a cool retro postcard I got at a bookstore in Oxford. My favourite photo of the kids as my frozen moment in time.
Hard to read, maybe, but it’s basically all about time—thow I don’t have any, why this whole endeavour is not only desired but NEEDED, and also a few random thoughts. My favourite? “whoever said ‘My time is your time’ was a fool!”
:-)

Been thinking about this one for a long time, but I wanted to do a self portrait for the journal. I thought why not try the old “photocopy” trick. So, I scanned my face!

I kinda like the smooshed up look.
I got my journal, now to just get started, all sorts of great ideas in my head. Now to just get them down…will have to be tomorrow, it’s very late. ZZZZZZ….

I want to post two pages, one that I like artistically, one that I don’t care for “ART” wise, but at the same time means a lot to me from the personal side.
The first page, the one that I like, from an art point of view, was pretty easy. I took some really cool wrapping paper that I bought and then I played with acrylic paints in bright colors. In order to journal, I placed a piece of velum over the paper and wrote on that.

The second page, actually, I like part of it. I read an article in Sommerset Studio on using tapes… I have always wanted an reason and a place to try the technique. Again, I used some funky wrapping paper and a few stamps. That part I like, the actual hand writing… well… anyway. The words are what matter to me.
And, I wanted to post this for those few people who may think that they can’t draw or be artistic. I am not normally a big chearleader, but my point is if I can post this, and be proud of it… CAUSE I AM… you can do this too!

Anyway, the journaling was from the midweek spark, and I love the fact that my life was so very easily represented by three random books in my office.
“The Late Talker”, “The Complete Encyclopedia of Photography” and “Protecting Your Clients’ Interests.”
I am a mother, an aspiring artist and an attorney. This is my life.
