New Beginnings

Hello everyone – I’m new here, joining in late. I don’t know why I thought I was joining only a little late but I see you are all way past the half way mark. I have a lot of catching up to do!

I decided to start from the beginning… and this is truly a new beginning for me…. the beginning of drawing and painting again after almost 20 years off… the beginning of knowing my dreams and path again after too much time floundering around trying to figure it out. So here I am… beginning a new art journal project… and I’m very happy to be here with all of you amazing creative people.

My first entry is crayon, watercolor, marker. My hand (looks so big!) and energy symbol and stars for the Universe.

melanie komisarski - geography of the soul

Here is my entry for the week with the one prompt—one image, one quote (“There is an eternal landscape, a geography of the soul; we search for its outlines all of our lives.”—Josephine Hart), and one earthy brown color. The journaling is my ramblings about my personal experiences with sludge, an obstacle I know all too well.

you shall be queen

I was looking up quotes with the word queen and found this nursery rhyme – words like lavender blue and lavender green inspired me to paint these colours as my background and incorporate images of queens and other things in the same colour scheme.

Week 5 (I think!)

I am so behind. I think this was for week five, the prompt was “break.” I wrote about how I need a break from boys sometimes… :) Thanks for looking!

Week #11 Darn/Stitch/Bond/Good Advice

This week was a challenge for me. I could not seem to move anywhere with this prompt. After reading Shimelle’s message numerous times I kept coming back to the same thing…and this is how it came out. The bonds of friendship, the fabric of everyday life, the release of laughter and the good feeling of being able to keep it together when you feel like cracking.

The journaling reads:

Who keeps me in stitches,
laughing so hard that it hurts?
Who holds me together when
I feel like falling apart?

Two people
Two Women
Two wives
Two mothers
Two individuals
Two lives
Two kids each
Two different characters
Two supporters
Two outlooks
Two experiences
Too funny
Too wise
Too creative
Too amazing

My two friends…..

Skipping to Week 7: One

Remember week 7? The challenge was to break free of that not so fresh, sludgy feeling by keeping it simple. I created the flower image and text digitally (going for a silk-screened kind of look) and printed on fabric. Then I pinned the piece to a background I had painted previously (homemade metallics mixing Golden acrylic colors with pearl). Believe me, it took everything I had not to embellish this further! “Simple” is very tough for me.

Back to the Beginning...Week 1 submission

Since participating here is a new adventure for me, I went back to the topic for week #1:New Beginnings, before moving on with this week’s topic. The image that instantly came to my mind was that of a poster I have downstairs in my workout room: a black and white photo of Muhammed Ali shadowboxing with the words “Impossible is Nothing”. I am strangely drawn to this haunting image, because I identify with the concept of having to move through the fear — and sometimes into the pain — in order to become more of what I want to be.

why i don't have wings

here is just an entry in my art journal….i’m so behind, i don’t even have an assignment to assign this to, lol, but i felt, so i created. i guess it kinda speaks for itself.

Attitude Girl Queen of Pie Spread

This says “There were those who wished her well and others who would try to sabatoge her by trying to put pie voodoo curses on her.” On top the genie says “Best Wishes” and below are voodoo dolls that say “I will try to put curses on your pies!” She is the Queen of Pie.

Queen Spread

I collaged this with old magazine pics. I decided not to include any writing and just put the Queen of Hearts because I just couldn’t come up with specific wording. Thanks for looking:)
