Week Three

Hopefully, this will work okay. I tried to upload my piece last week and had some problems.

Regardless, here is my entry for “Wheels”. I immediately thought of the wheel of dharma. I had my birthday this week, and I often think of the wheel of dharma around the time of my birthday. Sometimes I find myself caught up in the “why did this happen to me”, “when will that happen to me?” thinking that I need to remember that life continues to roll on and the circle will come back around….eventually.

It is great to be part of this challenge..I’m really enjoying it.

Weekend Spark

I finally finished my page for this past weekend’s spark about what item do you have in your home that you never think you’d have. My topic was our Goldfish. Two months ago my daughter came home from a birthday party with a goldfish. My husband and I were surprised to say the least. We hadn’t planned on getting any new pets anytime soon. But being animal lovers and wanting to keep our daughters happy we knew we had to give it a good home. We ended up going to the pet store to get supplies and a tank for it as well as a “friend” for it so that each of our daughters could say they have their own fish. So here we are two months later with these two goldfish in our house. They definitely weren’t planned additions to our family, but they have turned out to be fun afterall.

My page is very simple. Honestly I had other ideas for the design of the page, it just didn’t turn out as I expected while I was working on it. The “fish” is just wood painted with Orange glaze. The title says “Uninvited but Welcomed”. I did the title with a technique I saw on Tim Holtz’s DVD. I cut out letters from a quickutz and adhered them to paper. Then I got some foil tape and covered the letters and brayered over it to get the letters to “pop”. I then dabbed some alcohol inks over the whole thing. Then I got a sharpie to go over the letters to make it stand out some more, which is a bit different from what Tim did on his DVD. The scan didn’t show it too well, but in person it looks kind of cool. It was the first time I tried this technique myself, so it was kind of a learning experience for me at the same time, which is the whole point of this challenge, right?

I'm Still Here...I Just Cant Post

I just wanted to make a quick post letting y’all know that I am still here and thoroughly enjoying the class. I haven’t posted any of my pages yet because for some weird reason I can’t access writtendown.com from home. From work I can get to the site just fine. That is how I am keeping up to date on all of your super cool entries. But for some reason that I’m not computer literate enough to figure out, I can’t get to the site from home. I get an error message. I’ve tried connecting by typing the site in the address box and by just linking to it though the technology e-mail Shimelle sent us. Both work fine from work. Neither work at all from home. If any of you know what might be causing the problem please let me know. I’ve e-mailed Shimelle but I haven’t heard anything from her yet. My husband mentioned something about “firewall” but not knowing a lot about computers that word means absolutely nothing to me. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. I so want to be able to post my work for several reasons…1) it will make me feel more like a part of the class, 2) receiving comments will be an opportunity for growth, 3) putting my “soul” out there for public viewing is a risk I really need to take – I tend to hide my “art”. In the meantime, I will continue to check up on all of you each day. There are so many talented beings out there and it just blows me away. I’m trying to comment on as many posts as possible because I want to be involved and want to be an encouragement to all of you out there who are sharing your souls as well.

Hugs and Kisses to all of y’all!!!

Question

Am I the only one who is having trouble uploading pics all of a sudden? It’s the same format as all the other pics I uploaded, but it never appears in my little thumbnail image page. I retried it about 7 times! Is there something I’m missing here? Just curious…

My "Wheels" entries...

Good morning!
When I read “wheels,” the first thing that popped into my mind is my unreasonable and paralyzing fear of driving in traffic (and I live in Boston!) and in new places. It sucks. Pages are layered on a Boston aerial map and telephone book pages with transparencies, stamping, chalk. I yanked the page out of the phone book totally at random. When I started looking at it, I was fairly amused…I got entries for several mental-health facilities, as well as for the “Tri Town Driver Education Center, Inc.” Coincidence? Fate? Who knows…
Cheers!

Weekend Spark

Why can’t I draw! If I don’t manage anything else during this journal challenge – it will be to draw better. I never thought I’d love Red Wine like I do – and something that is good for you as well. I have left the opposite page blank until I can think of something else to include. I promise to draw it :)

Here is my midweek spark – I love books and reading but never seem to have time to fit it all in what with work and all my art projects.

Tried using some patterend paper on this one!

Midweek spark

Week 1

A bit late in uploading my offerings so far. Have felt like they were a little dull compared to everyone elses but hey, I can only get better right? Just used coloured pencils on this one to create the frame and highlight some words.

Week 1

Page 1 & 2

Here are my first 2 pages, they go along with the first week. The first one is a intro to what my journal is about, finding focus. Just some random journaling. Page 2 is one of the things I wnat to focus on, I have a list and plan on doing a page for each eventually.

Thanks for looking!

WEEK 3: cYcles

plain and simple life is a series of cycles. four seasons, metamorphosis, the 24-hour day,the Rpm gage in my car,go-to-work-go-back-home,eat,sleep,get-up,go-to-work-go-back-home,eat,sleep,get-up…..and of course the monthly cycle is the icing on the cake.

FLOWER:red acrylic paint and glaze over a flower sticker, a dab of yellow blended with rust and applied with a circular motion. used the opposite end of a skinny paint brush to make swirl in the center

BUTTERFLY:scanned a refrigerator magnet, altered to a warm tone in PS, cut it out, brushed it with glaze and stamped it with black soot distressed ink

LEAF: torn from old patterned paper, layered burgundy mesh ribbon over it and brushed with glaze

INDEX TABS left over from a set of pendaflex files. dabbed mixture of glaze and rust&red acrylic paint over the tabs. paisley foam stamp by making memories, layered a clockface transparency over the tabs.

had this magazine ad in my “art clip file” FOREVER. layered a little piece of mulberry paper on the edge of the page, brushed glaze and a little leftover paint over it.
